Round 8 of the ATC O'Reilly Auto Parts Series produced a commanding performance at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Sunday, as #94 Joshua Aultice drove from third on the grid to victory lane, leading 42 of 70 laps across a race that saw five lead changes and three cautions consume nine laps. Aultice, who entered the afternoon with one prior win on his ledger this season, made it two with a composed run through the field, holding off pole sitter #79 Jordan Traas, who led nine laps of his own but ultimately had to settle for second. Traas, starting up front in what looked like an ideal position to add to his eight all-time series wins, couldn't match Aultice in the race's decisive stretches. #84 Gio Turpin was a factor in the lead battle as well, logging 19 laps out front before fading to sixth at the checkered flag.
The story of the afternoon away from the front was #42 Cole Weinberg's charge from 13th on the grid all the way to the final podium spot. Weinberg navigated a competitive mid-field to claim third, a result that marks his first podium in the series. He did so absorbing four incidents along the way, a testament to the tight racing through the pack at Indianapolis. Rounding out a strong top five were #90 Kaiden Robitaille in fourth and #29 Judson Curtis in fifth, the latter result carrying significant weight in the broader points picture.
The race's hard charger award belongs to #81 Andrew Marsh, who buried the needle on positional gains with an 11-spot charge from 18th starting position all the way to seventh at the finish. Marsh's run through 22-car traffic — with three cautions punctuating an already eventful afternoon — was the most dramatic positional story of the day. Meanwhile, #96 Nathan Lawrence, who had qualified fifth, suffered the race's sharpest fall, tumbling 17 positions to last in the 22-car field, finishing without a single championship point to show for his afternoon despite a clean incident sheet.
In the standings, Judson Curtis sits atop the table with 291 points after his fifth-place run Sunday, holding a 56-point advantage over second-place Mitchell Williams at 235. David Burcicki sits third at 211 points despite not appearing in Sunday's finishing order, while Justin Frazier holds fourth at 193. Jordan Traas' runner-up effort vaults him into fifth at 180 points, keeping him firmly in contention as the series heads into the back half of the season. With Curtis holding a cushion but Williams, Burcicki, and Frazier all within striking range, the points fight is very much alive heading into Round 9.
